Badzuto State Hospital

After over a century of housing patients, the doors to the hospital closed for good in February of 2007. Most of the patients were transferred to a new facility. Others were sent to different state hospitals. The patients were gone, but their personal belongings and other items remain.

The 'Burg

The former building of a company that at one point seemed to run all of its operations at this location. There were signs that many different departments within the company were centralized here. In its prime, it must have been a large part of this suburban town's economy.

Byberry/PSH Part 1 **DEMOLISHED**

For a century, Byberry was notorious for many things. It was known for its patient abuse, over crowding, and living conditions comparable to Nazi concentration camps. After its closing, it became a haven for locals, urban explorers, grafitti artists, and ghost hunters.

Byberry/PSH Part 2 **DEMOLISHED**

No other abandoned property was quite like "The Berry" on a Saturday night. Time after time, experienced explorers would always say the same exact thing. "Nothing compares to Byberry."

Casa Loma

What was once the former castle of Sir Henry Pellatt is now one of Toronto's most historic sites. The present condition of the castle is what happens when a historic site is preserved rather than torn down for luxury condos or a Walmart.

Coal Breaker

Once a promising source for an excellent future and job opportunities during the peak of the coal industry. Everything in the surrounding area seemed run down, out dated, and left to rot. If it wasn't for the automobiles, you would think the town was stuck in the 1960s.

Columbia University Steam Tunnel System

Ever wonder what is underneath your school? You might just find an elaborate underground tunnel system.

Danvers State Hospital **DEMOLISHED**

Arguably one of the most infamous asylums ever built. The small town of Danvers, MA and its state hospital were known around the world because of its unique architecture, dark past of patient abuse, controversy over its demolition, and the movie Session 9.

Eden Hall

A historical church in Northeast Philadelphia that once had restoration plans now faces an uncertain future because of excessive arson damage.

The Forgotten Psychiatric Hospital

This hospital is still partially active and houses patients. The only thing separating the active section from the abandoned section was one padlocked door. It was the first hospital of its kind...

The Gaebler Children's Center

This was not a place any child would have wanted to end up in. The need for The Gaebler Children's Center arose in order to have a separate location that focused on care for children, rather than being placed in a state hospital with adults.

Golf School 101

Everything a golfer needed could be found here. It had two mini-golf courses, an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, and a pro shop. The 18-hole golf course had recently been sold to a developer. New houses now sit on the former spot.

Haverford State Hospital

It was nicknamed the "Haverford Hilton" when it was built in 1964. It only took a few years before it was known for being over crowded, shock treatment, and the usual problems of a state hospital. It was finally closed in 1998.

Kings Park

KPPC opened in 1885 spread out over 800 acres of land. It became its own self sufficient town housing as many as 9,300 patients at once. Like when so many other psychiatric hospitals closed, patients were left to survive on the street with little or no help.

Lakeville Hospital

This was much more of a modern looking hospital on its interior and exterior. Even though the hospital was closed in 1991, most of the buildings remained in better than average condition. Plans to reuse the land are progressing.

Lower PA Hospital

Other than working electricity, this hospital had it all. There was also all types of machinery and equipment left behind. The best part may be the view of the skyline you get from the rooftop.

Metro State Hospital **DEMOLISHED**

First opened in 1930 and closed in 1992. These photos were taken only days before demolition began. Some buildings will not be lost forever and have plans to be restored.

Michigan Central Station

Constructed in 1913 and located in Detroit, this was once Michigan's largest train depot. Its final train left on January 6th, 1988.

Northville Regional Psychiatric Hospital

A modern psychiatric hospital with an endless underground tunnel system connecting each building. Located in a suburban setting, it won't be long before the hospital is torn down for new real estate. The buildings were constructed in the 1950's and have not been considered for preservation.

Norwich State Hospital

Recently featured on VH1s Celebrity Paranormal Project. Unfortunately, VH1 did a terrible job and had nothing to do with a true experience inside the hospital. Celebrities and abandoned asylums don't mix very well.

North Princeton Developmental Center

Formerly known as the New Jersey State village for Epileptics. Those diagnosed with epilepsy were treated no differently than anyone else with mental illness. At its peak, it housed over 1500 patients and had more than 100 buildings.

Packard Plant

Once a manufacturing facility that designed engines used in fighters during both world wars, luxury automobiles, and other important materials for America's economy. At one point the plant had 40 buildings that connected and stretched over a square mile. Built in 1907 and closed in 1956.

Peco Power Play

Clearly visible off of a major highway, how could you not want to go inside this abandoned coal power plant?

Pennhurst State Hospital & School

Rather than being known for helping children, it was more known for the abuse of children. At one point, NBC did an undercover report exposing the conditions children were forced to live in.

Royersford-Spring City Railroad Bridge

At one time this was a railroad bridge that looks as if it delivered coal to the Pennhurst State School and Hospital power plant. One bad step crossing these tracks could lead to a potentially fatal fall into the Schuykill River.

Salem Jail

Located in the heart of Salem, MA. Built between 1811-13 and didn't close until 1991. There were jail cells with no toilets, only slots to pass buckets back and forth.

Steve Grabowski Memorial High School

I'd like to thank the School District of Philadelphia for your mismanagment over the years. Places like this wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for your incompetence.

Twelve Monkeys Power Plant

If you have ever seen 12 Monkeys, some of this may look a bit familiar.
